Decided to do some of the usual maintenance items today.

The tear down begins with tank & seat removal. Cleaned some dirt and crude off first, more to clean while it's apart. I then adjusted the valves, added a new spark plug, cleaned the air filter and cleaned out the gas tank. I can see the dirt being in the tank, but weeds too.....really?

Next up....Sub frame removal to get the rear shock out for servicing and a new 11.0 kg Eibach spring.

You know what would be really helpful for me.....a couple of pictures and then pointers.

Last year had a buddy haul my butt home after a flat. The rear end of the bike scooted out to the side as we started out. Luckily he saw it and pulled over so we could fix it. Really didn't feel comfortable with the way it was strapped, (actually didn't care, just wanted to get it home) would have been nice to know how to securely tie a bike down.

I scored some nice tire irons. They also double as an axle wrench for both front/rear.

And, they're super light weight titanium. A bit expensive at $30 each, but not any more than buying all the tools separately.

Well I been breaking stuff left and right and I have absolutely $0.00 to spend on the girl. So i figured I would take the hammer to her and see if I couldn't straighten some things out.

The biggest thing was to make the bike street legal again. My mud flap/turn signal/license plate bracket broke again. The first time I fixed it with just some good 2part 90min epoxy. Worked for a couple of months but never really bonded with the plastic. This time I decided to put some wire in it. Hopefully ...

On Tuesday evening, I received a frantic call from my brother. His wife who is 7 months pregnant, was at home alone, and, without going into details, was in very dire distress. We both raced to his house, arriving shortly before the ambulance. The paramedics did their assessment, and scooped her up and took her to the ER. They would not let me in to the ER, so my brother was texting me from inside. The doctors were so worried about her condition, that within 15 minutes of arriving at the hospital, ...

I am planning on going, and was wondering if any other intrepid explorers were thinking of doing the same? Never ridden on a proper track before, just trails and fire roads. I have been out of riding for a couple months with a hand injury, so this will probably be a mellow run for me. Just going for the fun of it.
Anyone have comments or insite about a DRZ400? I owned a KLR650 but got rid of it. My problem with it was, too heavy for trails and viburated like a 25c motel bed on road trips. I did like the fact that it had a lot of after market support. Seems like a DRZ400 is a smaller version, lighter and less vibs on the road. The KLR was comfortable and the DRZ looks like it's goinng to need a different seat. That's all I got on a DRZ.

I did good on the freeway, but once I started to hit the gravel, wasn't sure if I was in the right frame of mind to ride. When I rode sportbikes, i have turned around and gone home because of this. Decided to press on for awhile anyway. Didn't take long to forget my troubles behind. Actually ...

Once again the wifey didn't charge the GPS all the way. Got me out to my enterance to the trails, but that was about it. Really just wanted the compass on it since it's no good on the trails.

Nobody brought any cameras. Don't know what they where thinking. Nothing but problems the whole day, still nice to get out.

Meet-up. Waiting on two other riders.

Here's a sequence shot I learn I could do. Need to do some more difficult terrain for it to look decent. O'well.

Little narration of what I think was going on in there heads. LOL

WEEEEEEEEE. This is FUN!!!!

my 07 xr650l with about 10,500 miles was getting harder and harder to find neutral, put in new plates and springs at 7500 miles for the same reason, and solved problem, but 3000 miles later sos! so i tore the pos down tonight and found the clutch basket had some fairly deep notches wore where the plates drive against the basket. i removed the basket and filed it until the notches were smoothed out, put the olgirl back together, went for a ride and it works perfect.
