Decided to do some of the usual maintenance items today.

The tear down begins with tank & seat removal. Cleaned some dirt and crude off first, more to clean while it's apart. I then adjusted the valves, added a new spark plug, cleaned the air filter and cleaned out the gas tank. I can see the dirt being in the tank, but weeds too.....really?

Next up....Sub frame removal to get the rear shock out for servicing and a new 11.0 kg Eibach spring.

my 07 xr650l with about 10,500 miles was getting harder and harder to find neutral, put in new plates and springs at 7500 miles for the same reason, and solved problem, but 3000 miles later sos! so i tore the pos down tonight and found the clutch basket had some fairly deep notches wore where the plates drive against the basket. i removed the basket and filed it until the notches were smoothed out, put the olgirl back together, went for a ride and it works perfect.

I installed this LED unit, its a Edge 2 LED taillight. It's made to mount up under the fender but I decided to mount it above the fender to keep it out of harms way. I think it really looks good on the bike. You remove the stock light unit from the fender and install the new light over the hole. One note, the license plate bracket that came with the unit is to small to fit a standard license plate...Hmmmm. So I had to make a modification to make the plate fit right., ended up backing the plate ...

Well I had to move the signals in order to go hard over to either side with the steering. So with some resrearch and ideas from this site I did the following: Drill a 5/16" hole to run the wires through then hold the light up to mark the mounting holes:

Then mount the new LED signal you got at Wal-Mart for $7.00 with a couple of machine screws:

Wire the new signal to where your old signal plugged in and while you have the number plate off be sure to go to schucks and spend ...

Here are a couple of pics of the bike after install:

If anyone else installs one of these tanks, there is a center stabilizer tube the attaches to the headstay on the engine. You will need to shorten it with a sawzall or a hack saw. I shortend mine about 1/2" overall then went to Lowes and bought diaphram washers to put in the ends of the tube to cussion the tank:

Then, install the arms on the tank that reach down to attach to the frame but don't ...

What are my options? Upgrade the magneto (cost; possibility of damaging other electrical parts); something else? Or, is it more trouble than it's worth? Any ideas appreciated.

Last summer I installed a Trail Tech 8” race light on my XRR and started trying to figure out where to re-locate the front turn signals to. I couldn’t find a place where they wouldn’t look like crap so I ended up just leaving the front turn signals off completely until I could come up with a better solution, which brings us to now.

Last month a friend ordered a set of Zeta hand guards with built in LED turn signals for his WR250R, I really liked the built in blinkers on the Zeta’s…… ...

I didn't have any major plans today so I fabbed up a $4 rear fender brace. The main purpose of this brace is to support my Giant Loop & gear for long trips!

I started with a piece of 3/4" stock measuring 14" in length. I made a mark at 4" from the ends leaving 6" in the middle.

Using a torch I warmed up the metal and started my bends.

Perfect fit!

I used a piece of paper as a template to come up with the twist idea.

I love it when a plan comes ...

OK, this is my first ever how-to/mod write-up, so if you have any pointers on improvement, go ahead and let me know.

Here is what I started with:

The first order of business was to strip off the side panels, seat and tank.

I then removed the stock petcock from the original tank.

The new tank's mounting surface for the petcock is rather rough, so I did not think the stock O-ring on the petcock would be enough to seal off any gas leaks.

I found that the petcock pick-up/vent ...

I have a tent that I'm happy with but the pole sections are 24" long. I found tension pins at the hardware store today that were the perfect size for my project.

I needed 1/4" X 2" for my poles.

I took a screwdriver and widened the gap in the tension pin. Drill a hole in but not through a block wood to hold the pin for you.

With one end widened it's a tight fit putting in inside the pole. The other end remains small enough for the pole to slip over like it's intended ...

They are made for RC aircraft and are extremely reliable, easy to connect and disconnect, can take high loads and they are very solid. WAY better than the cheap automotive style connectors that you buy at napa, shucks, ect. I just installed my 200W Ricky Stator and used these connectors to replace the ones that came on the stator assy, wires going to the lights, switches, ect ect.
