| On Tuesday evening, I received a frantic call from my brother. His wife who is 7 months pregnant, was at home alone, and, without going into details, was in very dire distress. We both raced to his house, arriving shortly before the ambulance. The paramedics did their assessment, and scooped her up and took her to the ER. They would not let me in to the ER, so my brother was texting me from inside. The doctors were so worried about her condition, that within 15 minutes of arriving at the hospital, they performed an emergency c-section. My niece was born at 8:24 pm on October 27. She arrived 8 weeks and 5 days early, but came out kicking and screaming at 4 pounds and 17 inches long. They flew her and my brother over to the UW NICU because they have a better premature department there. I packed clothes and gear, and loaded up his other 2 kids and ran over there to be with them. Mom was released from our local hospital and driven over by a close friend yesterday morning. That was her first chance to see her baby, and boy were they both happy. Last night was my first sleep in 3 days, and it came pretty easy, first because I was so tired, and second because both mom and baby are doing terrific. The staff at the hospital are really amazed at how well she is doing, and expect to release her at the end of next week for transport back home, and observation here. They figure she will be released before Thanksgiving. My brother and his wife and new baby are still in Seattle, doing great, and I can't wait for them come home. |
