SATURDAY 10/1 Money Creek (Skykomish) mine exploration - let's head out

Need more info. If it's just a ride out to the mine...well....That's about an hour and half slab time.....assuming that I don't have to push-start anyone every 25yards.....that's about a 15min. slow to brisk paced gravel ride.

No, we go for the long(er) haul on our rides.
We are going to meetup in Skykomish, roughly 10 am, park in town, and then bike over and explore (with a lunch somewhere in there) for about 6 hours.

I would love to go but my events cordinator has me booked out. There are three mines I want to hike to but it looks like it will be spring before I get a chance as I think this Fall is going to be a wet one.

Which 3? I've read the NWUE books, 2DRX website, Discovering Washington's Mines, etc -

Any tips as to what to see, etc? I haven't been up there for 15 years -

I thought about going....wife even asked if I was going. Day's notice just wasn't enough. Got to many chores to do.

I see you went to the Damon Mine. I want to hike up to the Apex mine which is just down the road and to the right, the trail starts at the old engine thats bolted to the concrete slab. I am told its a great view of the area on that side of the mountain.



I also want to head up to the Silver creek mining area and check out Mineral city but I do not know if you can still get there as it has been 15 plus years ago I was that way.



On the way I would like to check out the Sunset and Non Pareli Mine areas.



I know of a retired friend who takes his metal detector out in those areas and checks out around the camp areas for coins. A couple of years ago he found a dime that he sold for $800. I do not remember the year it was but it was old and of course he would not tell me what area he was at .

Exactly....mining is in my blood. I LOVE these places...just wish the idiots would pick up their beer cans, candy bags, dropped food out of the mines! Slobs with kids.

Wow, that is unusual. Usually the rare coins are rare for a reason....even on the ground 100 years ago, they *still* were rare then.

What date/mint mark was it?

It was a few years ago and I have forgot. Not sure when I will run into him again. Any thing he would find detecting he would put in a seprate bank account for his two grandkids collage fund. I thought that was a cool deal to do.

I really wish I could go with you. I was up there about a month and a half ago and the road up to the lake has been fixed. I walked to the old engine was all I had time for.

There were a couple of guys in the Damon Mine doing some prospecting so I did not hang around. They were ok to talk with but they were real hillbilly sorts. (I could here banjo muisic playing so I got out of there).

I am going to be up that way Labor Day weekend...

Just returned. The "hike" up to the Apex is gueling, life-threatening and dangerous. Probably the riskiest thing I've ever done.

There were some huge steps up with no handholds you had to take which, if you slipped, you would not survive.

If you go up go up now because the trail just got brushed out ie weed whacked - w/o that it would be impassable. Wear tough hiking shoes and take your time!

Cardio city at first, evens out to a sloping puncheon road then comes the brush, then the dangerous steps up hiiiiiigh with cardio and death :-)
