Hope everyone had a great Christmas! I wanted to post this up here, its motorcycle related, but not dual sporting. I have a lot of fond memories of living in Seattle Washington, and here are some old pics of me and my twin brother on our vintage bikes in Washington, as we did a ride through three states. Me and him still have these bikes, need to do it again! Here is the posting:My brother, DoctorDR, and I took off on a one week camping trip across Washington State to Montana. It was 1992, and my brother
had been accepted to the University of Texas and was about to move there. So, this would be on of our last rides together.
Shortly before leaving, we found DoctorDr's 1948 Indian Chief through some collectors I knew. The bike had not been used in many, many years.
The last we heard it was used as a parade bike in the 1970's. It needed cleaning, de-greasing, tank-sealing, generator work, wheel work, cables and various repairs to get it running and road worthy. The good news was that we discovered the motor had been rebuilt to like new, including the transmission and clutch. We located documentation that proved it was built by the reputable Sammy Pierce - before the days of reproduction parts.
So, all the parts used in the rebuild were original Indian!
My 1960 Panhead was not all stock and original when purchased, but it ran really well. I eventually restored the wheels, engine top-end, and did the paint job.
Other than a minor carburetor problem on the Chief, the bikes were rock solid. We cruised around 55-60 mph, toured Mount St Helens, camped near Mt. Rainier, climbed the mountain to Eastern Washington and the Okanogans to Kalispell Montana and back.
The North Cascades Hyw, one of my favorites.
Mount St Helens, 12 years after the eruption and it looked like it only happened a month ago.
Creme of the crop Langlitz leather jacket... it weighs 20 lbs and creaks when you move in it!
Wow I look as Gay as the color I painted this thing!
Eastern Washington, so very different than the Western part of the state, and thats what I love about it!
We only recently threw out those old Chase Harper bags... unbelievable.
Dry Falls, Washington.
My brother and I need to repeat this ride!
After all we both still own the bikes!
