| Only problem I see is it's not street legal in WA, which makes it worth a lot less. It's really hard to get them plated in WA now...almost impossible, it's a lot easier to just buy one that's already plated out of state and then bring it in. The inverted forks are very cool though Hodakaguy | |

| Thanks man, I saw that one too. While it would fit the bill to a T, Hodakaguy is right. In talking to the State Patrol here in Moses, they said as long as it doesn't say "For Off Road Use" on the frame it would be ok, the title still says it though. The reins are being tightend as far as plating a dirt only bike. I was going to do a Baja Designs kit on my 450X but found it would have been to no avail as it is a "dirt only" bike. Olympia has long arms! | |

| I didnt notice it wasnt plated I just assumed it was. maybe its the 650l Im thinking of thats street legal. It is unfortunate that its pretty much impossible to get a dirtbike plated especially if it says offoad only on the title. Unless you get one out of state plated. Ill continue to keep an eye out. | |

Ok, so I've been watching some of the Washington State discussions about how harsh the plated dirt bike laws are being enforced. So lets say I want to bring my dual registry XR650R to Washington to go for a ride. Let's say I trailer the bike to the Burbank or Kennewick area and then take off for meet and greets, and some offroading or dirt road exploring. Furthermore lets say (because its fact) my motorcycle is plated and insured, but my equipment is not D.O.T. approved. For example I have a rear brake switch but only the stock bulb, fender mounted plate, no turn signals and stock headlamp, single strap on mirror and battery operated electronic horn. I use my GPS as a speedo. I also have the off highway vehicle registration sticker and my registration paperwork clearly defines the bike as both. I'm sort of legal in Montana/Idaho. Would I be a target for Washington State Troopers if I showed up for a meet and greet breakfast? Would they confiscate my motorcycle because it doesn't meet local state laws? How about some feedback? And none of this Regards, griz

If a police officer would like to start writing you tickets...he can.

Regards,
griz I've never had a problem with a bike on the street by cops ect...the problems in WA come from Olympia and the licensing department and during registration/tab renewals. I only run with one mirror ect and have never had a problem, these types of bikes just don't attract attention like a kid on a bullet bike ect. Hodakaguy

| I don't think you'll be harassed, they may glance at you but if they see a plate, head light(on) tail light, they probably wont bother you. And if they did they 'll probably warn you if your from out of state. | |

| Technically in Wa, your suposed to have a metal tank on a DS. No one does but your supposed to. Like Hodaka Guy said the biggest harrasment comes with liscensing a dirt bike. But with all of the other things around these areas to attract cops, unless your riding in a very noticable manner, you could probly get away with a full blown dirt bike with a trip permit taped to the fender! You shouldn't have any problems at all | |

True...only on a Japanese bike though. KTM's come street legal from the factory in WA with plastic tanks...they get to follow different rules than the Japanese do... Hodakaguy

| I was talking to the dealer here and they were telling me that it's kind of a loop hole on the Katooms in that the titles simply don't specify a use class. But true all that. I would go pick up a new 530 right this second if money permitted however given that annomoly, I'll probly be waiting for a bit to pull the trigger on anything. | |

Yeah I really should have just waited and purchased a low miles used one that is already tricked out with lots of farkles ....they come up all the time for some great deals. $5500-$6000 will buy you a 08 or 09 with lots of goodies on it. WAY cheaper that what I have into mine now Hodakaguy

| Yeah but there is just something about new bikes too. Even if they are a little more, at least you know everything that has been done to it. I would hate to spend 6 or 7K or even a grand on a used bike that's rod bearing has 5 minutes of time left on it, cause the guy for got to refill the oil after a change you know. Truthfully, I have been dragging my feet hoping Honda or even Yamaha would get on board and start making a competetive 450 or even a 500 something dual sport. It seems like the Japenese turn a deaf ear to KTM and Husky. | |
