B C Big Trailie Ride 5

just returned home from a 2 1/2 day 954 mile ride in the kootnays and the okanogan. most of the routs were dirt with a bit of slab in between. there were probably about 60 riders from british columbia, alberta, washington. alot of bmw's, ktm, klr, v stroms, triumph tigers, drz's an the list goes on. this was an adv. rider rider on the canada thread, so if ya want to see some more pics check it out on adv. as i'm sure people will probably be posting some good pics. this is the 5th year, the first year i have ridden it, but definatley not the last. every year is a different area an route, an i will for sure be there next year!! the first pic is of dan's bike from vancouver island b.c. , he rode over to oroville an we rode together to nakusp b.c. together through the granby forest road. we stopped for a rest an noticed the klr was falling apart already. the turn signal had fallen off

after a little closer inspection i notoced that something didn't look right in the rear wheel. he had a strap over his gear that had come loose an got caught in the rear wheel that's what tore the signal off. so it was the adjustapeen tool to the rescue! in a few minutes all was well again with the klr.

here is a pic of the granby road, nice road, we saw 3 bear on this road an some deer, but i wasn't fast enough to get a pic. this was taken on the fly.

this is day 1 at kuskanuk lodge in nakusp, alot of bikes!! there were a few small crashes on the trip. mostly beemer guys that forgot to turn off the abs. in the dirt.

this one is for hodakaguy there is an old mining town just above nakust with lots of old equipment, you can go through the town and up to the summit of idaho pear, but there was still to much snow at 7500 ft so we skipped it.

we ended up with another guy from vancouver island named bruce riding a beemer. both dan an bruce were good guys to ride with, dan an i rode a bit more agressive than beemer bruce, but he did pretty darn good, well he did have one small crash that we didn't get to see. it had been raining and the road was not very nice when he took his spill. no injuries to him or the bike.

we started day 2 in revelstoke. the night before we all went to dinner, bruce ate an had a beer with us an went to bed. dan an i closed the bar, an got kicked out. he seemed to think he was gonna drink me under the table he did pretty good for a little fella, but was still a few behind. the next morning the rain had stopped an the scenery in revelstoke was visable.

the 2nd day proved to be a long one, we had lunch in kelowna at about 3p.m., we were supposed to be on keromeos at 6:30 for a bar bq and some door prize drawings and bsing for the last night of the ride. bruce decided to take the slab an go straight to keromeos. [which was the smart thing to do] dan an i hooked up with another bunch that were going to do some of the kvr. [kettle valley railway] the krv has had the tracks removed an some potrions of it are open to motorized use. i didn't get any pisc of the holes in one section but they were about knee deep water, an by the time i got the 990 through them i was soaked! some parts were very nice.

we got a bit lost after the kvr returned to the road, we needed to go to o.k. falls in a hurry an hit the last stretch in to keromeos. we ran into a freak storm that dumped a fair bit of hale on us. when we hit this spot everyone come to a screatching hault i decided to go througt it for a while to see how bad it got. luckily it didn't go to far an everybody went on . after i rode back down an got them ofcourse.

once we got on top i decided to make up for lost time an run the old 990 a little like it likes to be run, not easy to get this pic!!!!

we got to keromeos just in time for the door prizes, which i won some adv. stickers i decided to slow down a bit after i saw this.

the last day was only a half days ride to princeton b.c. for lunch an then every body headed home. the route we took was the headley nickle-plate road this is very close to home an i have ridden this before.

Nice, thanks for sharing. I would like to ride that railroad grade some time, and that road out of Princeton. I had been eyeing that ride, but it was the same weekend as the Dirty Face at Lake Wenatchee, which I do every year.
