I'm continuing to set up my new to me 530 XCW. While surfing the web I came across a company called Trailjammer Designs who makes an aluminum clutch guard to protect the fragile stock clutch cover. I've seen rocks go through clutch covers in the past and it would absolutely ruin your ride when your a 100 miles from anywhere. I decided to order a case saver for the 530 as added protection while out on the trail. I ran a similar guard on my old XRR and liked the extra protection and security.
The TJ case saver is fabricated from heavy gauge aluminum and is contoured to fit the shape of the stock clutch cover exactly. It's powder coated with a high quality finish and comes with the TrailJammer logo on the face (removable if you want to apply your own sticker). The case saver is attached to the clutch cover with high temp silicone sealant and forms a permanent bond once dried. Here's a couple shots of the case saver as I recived it.
Here's what my OEM clutch cover looks like as I picked it up, 50hrs of boots rubbing on the cover have taken their toll. You can see a gouge in the bottom edge of the cover where it looks like the brake lever hit it, it was very close to going through the cover!
And the TJ case saver in place, instant face lift and protection from future trail bashing.
I decided to pull the OEM cover off and powder coat it while I was at it, you don't need to pull the cover off to install the TJ case saver....I just wanted the whole cover black :-) You can see the gouge in the bottom edge of the OEM cover better in this shot.
Apply a good amount of quality high temp silicone sealant to the bottom of the case saver and stick it to the OEM clutch cover. I did this with the cover off but it's just as easy with the cover installed on the bike. Take some masking tape and tape the case saver tight to the cover till the silicone sets up. 24hrs later it's rock solid and ready to use.
And mounted on the bike. Fit is excellent and it looks factory! I'll feel better out on the trails (especially rocky ones) with the case saver installed. Love the looks as well :-)
Since I was already there.....and since I was going to install a high flow water pump kit and new water pump seal I decided to powder coat the water pump cover as well. It looks a lot better now not having so much grey on the engine :-)
