XR650L MODS?

Not since the last jet swap. The next time I run the tank out ill have to get all the fuel to the one side of the tank and see how many more miles i get out of it.

did you lower the gearing? just wondering because when i run my 16 tooth front sprocket on my 990 the mileage drops 4 miles to the gallon!

yeah I think it is one lower in the front and a couple bigger in the back than stock....

ahh yes, i think that may be part of the fuel suckage issue

It reduces the bottom end torque.

Anyone use the MSR skid plate on thier L?? What did you think?

I know any skid plate is better than none but thier mounting system seems a little hokey.

i have a MSR skidd plate on the DR and it took a huge rock at odessa and saved the case, it did get bent to sheet and i had to use a BFH to get it to mount back up. it all most came off when i hit it. it did its job, but i could use a new one.

i'm pretty sure i have a msr. ya the mounting system is a little rinky dink, but i have had no issues with it, however when changing the oil i have some issues. first the hole in the skid plate doesn't line up with any thing, an when you take the filter out it runs down the side of the motor and into the skid plate where it fans out and proceeds to drip off of every corner of the skid plate. i just use a drain pan big enough to catch it. even with the foney mount, it is still 100 times better than the stock piece of that protects nothing. just my

After looking around a bit im not seeing anything that impresses me all that much. The msr and moose look well built but im not impressed with the mounting system. I am leaning towards making one that uses the holes for the stock bash guard for easy removal. maybe I'll find something at the bike show.

Yeah im lookin at the one on my xt and it makes all the ones online look pretty wimpy.....Reinrod made one for his lc4 and atk and they both turned out nice and stout. The only thing holding me back is home project time at work is limited. I guess I need to just start making my cardboard template and get it done rather than just talking about it. :dead hors:
