A dirt bike enthusiast previews the new Reiter Foothills trail in Gold Bar on Aug. 1. The Department of Natural Resources opened the trail for a limited time in order to get feedback about the trail from riders so that they could make improvements before opening it to the public.
The State Department of Natural Resources is inviting the public to ride newly completed off-road vehicle trails at Reiter Foothills.
Trail users will have an opportunity to complete a survey about the trails to give their opinions on future trail design in the area. Test dates are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and on Jan. 20, Feb. 9 and 17 and March 9 and 24.
The trails include a single motorcycle trail and a 4x4 challenge course. Opportunities for ATV riders will be available later this year.
Go to tinyurl.com/TestRideReiter before you go to the test rides to find out about any weather closures on the test days. Access to off-road vehicle trails may be hindered due to snow. (The motorcycle trail is closed for this weekend.)
From Gold Bar, head east on U.S. 2. Turn left on Reiter Road just outside of Gold Bar. Go one mile and stay to the right at the 'Y' in the road. Continue on Reiter Road for another 3.1 miles. As you approach the 3.2 mile mark you will be turning left onto a Department of Natural Resources forest road (commonly known as Deer Flats Road). As you approach the turn, there will be a tree with two bright orange painted dots, an arrow painted on the road with a big "R," and a DNR sign that says "Entering Reiter Foothills Forest."
Parking will be limited. Riders may be turned away until parking opens up. A map for the 4x4 challenge can be found online at tinyurl.com/aorzt7x. A map for the single-track map is at
