Outline procedure:
- remove carburetor from bike, protect opening into engine to make sure nothing crawls in there while the carb is off.
- remove bottom of carb
- be careful not to lose the float, float pivot pin, spring, and needle valve which could fall out
- remove pilot jet
- I prefer to replace the jet, they are only a couple of bucks and sometimes its' hard to clean them out
- Clean out the carb while you've got it open
- Reassemble carb, may need new gasket. good idea to buy stainless steel socket head screws to replace the phillips screws on the bottom of the carb. They will last through more remove/replace cycles before stripping out.
- Re-install into bike
On some bikes you can rotate the carb in place and work on it without fully removing from the bike. But if you haven't worked on a carb before, this is dangerous since it's hard to see how everything goes back together if something falls out.,..
To prevent this, drain the gas from the float bowl during storage and/or add gas stabilizer.
