| I was thinking about doing to dual sport ride this April 10th down in Odessa, WA called the desert 100. I just checked out the stumpjumpers.org/desert-100/ web site and it looked pretty fun. Any pros or cons to this ride? I'm sure i'm the only person that hasn't done it yet.

| There are a lot of riders on this ride. Stumpjumpers wed site has a bunch of short videos of both the dual sport ride and race. Looks like a herd of water buffalo heading across the plains of Africa. |

| I did it last year, and had a terrific time. I did the poker run on Saturday, it is a course laid out across BLM and private property, It is pretty easy overall, with a couple of pretty technical sections, but they had bypasses. I saw kids as young as about 7 or so do the whole course. It is a great family atmosphere. We took our time on the first ride around and it took about 3 hours. There are check points along the way where you draw a card to make a hand for the end when they give out prizes. They even provide a lunch out in the middle of the course. It is a real blast! The race on Sunday takes place on the same "track" the poker run is done on, just by very fast guys, and in the opposite direction. They do a 'landrush' style start where all 100 or so guys start at the same time in one big line from a dead start. It is pretty awesome sitting on the sideline and see all those guys ripping past. I can't imagine the dual sport ride being very good. All the roads out there are arrow straight and flat. If anybody wants to do it, I would suggest doing the poker run. I am definitely doing it again this year. We arrived on Friday afternoon and set up camp, had no problem getting in. We should plan a get together and all try to roll in at the same time. It is a terrific time. | |

| I thought the dual sport ride and porker run were the same ride on Saturday? But they are two different events? Does anyone have a map of the course they could post of this ride? Thanks Darrin |

| Honestly, I don't know what the dual sport ride entails. They list it as a separate event on their website, saying it goes into town and visits some of the local businesses. The poker run definitely does not go on any roads, it is strictly off road. One loop of the course was about 47 miles last year, and the terrain is rocky, with some sand. The rocks are in the soil pretty firm, so there are only a few sections that have loose rock. I saw lots of dual sport bikes with 80/20 street/dirt tires on last year that did just fine. Shane, the type tire you are currently running is probably fine. Might want a fresh one by then depending how much riding you do this winter. Like I said, I saw a several kids on 50's doing the run, and they did fine. So old guys like us on bikes that have more power than we can use shouldn't have any problems. LOL I did a search and could not find any kind of map of the course. I know it does not cross, or follow on any roads. Here is a link with a road highlighted around an area that I believe is the riding course. http://tinyurl.com/ykjbguy I remember crossing a small creek a few times, so I think it is the area in the northeast section of it . Hope this helps, have a great day! | |

| My son, wife and I and our neighbors did this ride last year. You can do both the DS and the poker run. One lap around the race course (Although you do not do all the race course, they want to keep some of it secret for the racers) and then you go out and ride around on some BLM and private land that they open only for this ride once a year. It is a lot of fun to do. I think I still have a map of last years run and I still have the tracks. I want to ride this again in 2010. Hopefully we can all get together and ride. |

| I will see if I can post the map. Actually I think you can do 1 or 2 laps of the course and then the off course stuff. You really can do it any way you want as long as you are finished on time. |
