| Question....a stupid one.
2001 yz250 $800 Bone stock. NO title but I trust the guy and it sounds easy to have inspected and file for lost title.
I know it's not a trail bike, but can it be for minimal money? Worth buying, riding the season, then selling?
basically been sitting for 3-4years. started it last year after cleaning carbs out and started right up.

| Seen a lot of folks make the yz250 work great in the woods. Might want to invest in a flywheel weight and a sparky if it dont have one. Good reliable bikes | |

basically been sitting for 3-4years. started it last year after cleaning carbs out and started right up. I rode last week with a guy who had an older YZ250. It seemed pretty pipey for a trail bike. I'm thinking it would not only need a fly wheel weight but maybe a power valve modification.

| I say yes you can get a decent bike for less than $1k! I got my '89 XR250R in a trade. I bought an 83' Subaru for $350, cleaned it up and started trolling CL. Ended up trading the Subaru straight across for the XR, and it was listed for $1200! Plus the previous owner threw in a new chain, new Icon helmet and an Emglo contractors air compressor (he had 6). He wanted the car so bad, that he insisted on me leaving it there, loaded the bike and me up in his truck and hauled me home (50 miles +/-)... Be vigilant, and the right deal will come your way! | |

If it is so easy to get one, I suggest you make the current owner get one before the purchase. Even offer to pay for it. 99.99% of people who say it is easy to title something, don't have a clue what they are talking about. EVERY time I have done this, I have been burned. So, I no longer will. 2x was more than enough for me.

If its been through several owners then its only good for a parts bike. I dont understand the reason for not getting a title for a bike. ( and leagaly it belongs to who's name is on the title and they can come and get it when ever they want )

I think it's a cost thing. If the bike is intended for racing or riding on privat property, the owner can sometimes avoid paying tax on the bike and always avoids paying the titling and licensing fees. They may not be thinking about trying to sell it later. I bought my Gasgas from the original owner with only an MSO. He was an enduro racer so the bike never neeeded a title or license. That was good for me becasue the state of WA gave me a street title for it sight unseen!

| I would've jumped all over that GasGas 300... Great bikes! I've owned 3 of them. Only thing bad I have to say is they don't hold their resale value. Can't go wrong with '98+ KTM's or the '95+ KDX's. I've also ridden/raced 250 MX bikes that were set-up for the woods. | |

| Well...it's definitely not pretty. But it's mine....for now. I got 3 weeks to start the process of getting the title into my name. If I can't do it then I return it. *It's WAY to loud right now. Supposidly it's too hard to ride as is unless you are on open trails. | |

| First 2-stroke?
If you get it titled, here's a few tips to make it more trail-friendly. 1. FMF pipe with pipe guard and turbine core (spark arrestor) silencer. 2. Barkbusters. 3. Skid plate. 4. Flywheel weight. 5. Reed block spacer (torque spacer). 6. Additional base gasket.

Before there was a sea of orange out there YZ250's were all over the trails. I think they make great woods bikes and dependable too. Are you able to get orv tabs for it on the bill of sale? might just need the PO to go to the dmv with you. I used to ride a yz125 in the woods and I doubt I was faster on any other bike.

| The problem is the OP is a lazy bastard and never got a title for it after buying it. Only thing he did was run it through the system and it did NOT come up stolen. The previous owner only ran it on private property so he never registered it so i can't go back through the names. I'm going to call Bellevue WASP tomorrow and see what they say. Supposedly I can register it in my name and after starting the process have the title in 3YEARS. Anyway. The "Q"? skid plate flywheel weight fastway guards? tire? *crap...thought my tires would fit on it. I have 18 | |

| If you can get an ORV tag for it, I wouldn't sweat the whole title part. I have 3 (vintage) competition bikes that are not titled. Other than my Gassers and an XR250 w/ a baja d/s kit I never had any off-road bike titled.
Only thing I didn't mention above was the suspension. Typical moto suspension can beat you like a red headed stepchild on trails. Best bang for the buck when it comes to mods is the suspension. A good shop will tailor it to your ability and riding preference.

I dunno much about the local suspension gurus. Heard some good things about a guy named Les Tinius of LT-Racing over in Port Orchard (I think). I've used four different suspension shops. The two I'd recommend are WER and Factory Connection. But that was when I lived back east.
